We will host NichiBei Care Inter-Cultural (NIC) Talks 2017 on Saturday, November 4 in Emeryville, CA.
NIC Talks is a series of short talks by experts, followed by a time for you to chat with the speakers. There are talks in English and Japanese. The talks’ theme is Kokoro & Culture. Kokoro is a Japanese word to mean heart, mind, feeling,and mentality. The tentative topics include inter-cultural parenting, bilingualism, current affairs, mindfulness, and returning to Japan. Tickets will go on sale early July. More information will be available soon. Heartfulness Workshop – A compassionate Way of Mindful Living

Heartfulness is deeply rooted in traditional Japanese culture that cherishes gratitude, acceptance and humility, and supported by recent scientific evidence.

During this workshop, we will engage in exercises that enhance mindfulness, com- passion and gratitude, similar to those done in Stanford’s Heartfulness classes.

About the Instructor

Stephen Murphy-Shigematsu, Ed.D. is a psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University, former professor at the University of Tokyo, President of Nichibei Care. He is the author of When Half is Whole: Multiethnic Asian American Identities, and soon to be published From Mind- fulness to Heartfulness: Transforming Self and Society with Compassion.
