Naomi Hagura from Japan took Hawaiian Feather Art as therapy for a post piano recital fatigue while at the University of Hawaii. Naomi’s recovery was successful under the guidance of her feather lei teacher, Aunty Doreen. As a result of this experience, Naomi was inspired to study with Aunty Doreen to become a feather lei teacher and to explore the possibilities of becoming a healing teacher.
As a Japanese from Japan, Naomi is interested to bring the Hawaiian feather art to Japan. By doing this, it supports Naomi’s curiosity of exchanging cultural art practices all over the world. Naomi’s last name, Hagura (羽倉) literally means feather storage. Thus she also explores her family roots through feather art. Naomi would like to share the knowledge of Hawaiian feather art of making flowers in the workshop.
